My netbook (eeePC 1000he) has the 280, which is only barely faster than
the 270 (lower voltage is the main appeal) and it's usable but a bit
pokey compared to something like a C2D at the same speed.  You do wait
for things.  YouTube will take the whole CPU.  Linux sees it as a
dual-core due to hyperthreading but it feels like a single core.

That said, it's perfect to throw in the bag, can run for a solid 6 hours
on battery, with LUKS and wireless on, so I can't complain at all.
Extra vertical rez would be nice as many apps presume huge screens these
days (I haven't yet figured out a way to force GTK to override absurdly
large fonts specs either, which hurts) so I hook up an external display
when at the office.

I'm running Fedora 11/KDE on it.  IIRC correctly, Fedora 12 will be
compiled -mtune=atom by default for the i686 branch, which might help.
I just ordered another atom machine for an embedded use - they seem good
enough to replace the celerons for low-power apps.
